Breakfast at Tiffany’s
(followed by an architectural tour)
The New York City Tiffany building—today owned by Tiffany, a subsidiary of LVMH—underwent a major three-year renovation and reopened in 2023 as “The Landmark.” This marked the building’s first comprehensive overhaul since 1940 and was truly a feast for the senses.
The architectural redesign and additions were led by Shohei Shigematsu / OMA New York, while the interior architecture was planned and executed by Peter Marino. “Spectacular” barely captures this reimagined and reborn masterpiece.
Viewing the fabulous jewelry felt almost incidental; the 128-carat Tiffany diamond and its design display alone were worth the distraction.
Inside, immersive tech-enabled interiors, architectural details, and Tiffany-commissioned pieces by renowned artists such as Damien Hirst, Julian Schnabel, Rashid Johnson, Anna Weyant, Daniel Arsham, and Anish Kapoor created a vibrant dialogue with history merging into the present.
The historical facade, complete with the Atlas statue and clock, has been carefully refurbished.
A standout feature is the new three-story glass structure, comprising two distinct yet connected volumes: a lower space for exhibitions and events, and an upper cantilevered volume clad in undulating glass, aptly called the “jewelry box.”
And yes, the actual breakfast was a classic treat—courtesy of friends at Merrill Lynch—served at Daniel Boulud’s Blue Box Café, adding the perfect culinary touch to an unforgettable visit.
